- You have an interesting assortment of responses here! But I
- cannot resist adding my own to them.
-
- As you may have notives, computer languages can inspire an almost
- religious zeal: especially C and almost anyting that runs on
- Unix! There's nothing wrong with this as long as you are aware of
- it and are prepared to sprinkle a pinch or two of salt here and
- there.
-
- First of all, I think it is a good idea to make two or three
- languages available along with the deal to make some sort of
- constructive use of them. Or at least one of them! Your son will
- undoubtedly fins that he has a greater affinity for one or another
- of the languages and tend to gragitate to it. C++, Visual Basic
- and Pascal would make an excellent library of languages!
-
- However a few things to consider first: Hard disk real estate: I
- have Visual C++ and I would consider a minimum of 20 Megabytes of
- hard disk space as required. And it would be easy to double that!
- You also probably want at least 8Meg or memour in your machine and
- a 486 CPU. You don't want to overmatch your machine! Modern
- computer languages can make incredible demands on machine
- resources
